The SOADT consists of four units of the full Certificate IV in Companion Animal Care and Management. It can stand alone as a qualification in dog training, which will suit those who already have a Cert IV in a related field. Alternatively, those wishing to achieve a full Cert IV can study the additional units at various campuses of TAFE NSW.

The course will focus on the science of learning and behaviour and the ability to apply it humanely; resulting in a greater understanding of the human/dog bond and various strategies to enhance it. It will explore a wide range of training techniques and equipment.

Aims: To give students the skills to improve the plight of the dog in our society by constructively modifying dog behaviour in order to reduce the numbers of dogs being surrendered and euthanised; and to successfully rehabilitate surrendered dogs to loving homes. To provide students with a solid basis of education for a career in dog behaviour and training.

Suitability: Professional or competitive dog handlers or trainers and those wishing to enter into the field. Dog club instructors. Kennel Attendants, Dog Welfare Shelter Carers and Veterinary Nurses. Dog enthusiasts and pet owners.
